F.D. Candelieri Landscape Management – Proudly Serving Norfolk & Plymouth Counties, MA
So, you finally decided to expand your outdoor living area to include a larger patio and a pool. Yet, you want to be able to enjoy the night life in your backyard without letting the dark chase you and your guests indoors.
See how different types of outdoor lighting make your Hingham night-time parties more entertaining:
Landscape lighting: You can now enjoy your evenings into the late night hours with landscape lighting. Path lights guide guests from your driveway to your front porch or to your backyard. Moonlighting creates light emanating from a favorite tree—casting shadows below. Add lights to all of your outdoor rooms so you and your guests can see and enjoy each other’s company—even at midnight. You can also add lights to your swimming pool, pond, waterfall and retaining wall to create mood and drama to your backyard.
LED lighting systems: LED lights no longer give a harsh blue glare like they did in their infancy. Today’s LED lights cast a soft yellow or soft white glow. They’ll also save you money on utilities. While the upfront cost is steeper than incandescent lights, LED lights can last up to 20 years (or more) and use less energy—saving you money on your utilities.
Outdoor kitchens: Outdoor kitchens are more than a prep and cooking area. They’re now the center of night-time entertaining. If you have a seating area around your kitchen space, you can add lights to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. You can also add lights to counter-tops, by the sink and over the grill to help you see as you prepare a late night meal.
Outdoor dining areas: Like your outdoor kitchen, you can enjoy a late meal al fresco by lighting up your dining area. Add string lights throughout your pergola, arbor and gazebo to enjoy late night entertaining. Sconces and chandeliers add to the intimate atmosphere.
Outdoor living room: Do you think fire light is the only way to enjoy your outdoor living room? Not anymore. You can now buy outdoor lamps, paper lanterns, chandeliers and a host of other outdoor LED fixtures to brighten your outdoor living room.
Backyard movie nights: If you have kids, an outdoor movie night is like going to an old-fashioned drive-in. All you need is a blank, white wall or heavy white fabric to act like a screen, as well as a projector, DVD player and an HDMI cord. Make popcorn, move the outdoor sofa and chairs around to enjoy a cozy night-time movie.
Fireplaces, fire tables and fire pits: You’re not limited to one or the other. Instead, you can have a fireplace in your dining area or living area as a focal point. Add a fire pit to the far end of your patio with built-in seat walls to roast marshmallows, make s’mores and host a larger group of people around the fire light.
Portable propane or natural gas area heaters: This fall, do you think you need to rush indoors to watch Monday night football? Not anymore. Instead, add portable propane or natural gas heaters to keep you and your guests warm while you root for your favorite team on your outdoor television.
Don’t limit your outdoor entertaining to only daytime hours. Enjoy your nights in your backyard by adding a variety of lights to illuminate, keep warm and add drama.
